G.E.ISAACS & SONS LIMITED
George Ernest Isaacs served his apprenticeship at Croskell's Builders under the watchful eye of his uncle. He stayed there for 10 years working his way up to General Foreman, until the outbreak of the Second World War, during which he served as a dispatch rider. On his return home to Redcar, Cleveland he founded the business. In 1950, his first son, Ron, joined him.
In 1953 they won a contract to build houses for Leeds Corporation, helping to form the Seacroft housing estate. This contract was undertaken with the intention of travelling home to Redcar on weekends, but this proved impracticable, so the company moved to Leeds where George’s brother Phillip and his son joined them. This led to the formation of a new company called Brosons, an abbreviation of Brothers and Sons which founded it's Headquarters in Kippax, Leeds 25.
They continued building houses for Leeds Corporation for a number of years, but as their reputation grew for uncompromising quality they began building individual houses for private customers in various parts of the city and outlying areas.
This involvement with architects soon steered them towards building vicarages for the Ripon Diocese. In 1964, George's second son, Geoffrey, joined the Company to serve his apprenticeship.
The work for Ripon Diocese created a new interest for George and Ron as they took the joinery side of the business forward into quality hardwood carpentry on Churches and older buildings. Geoff found a natural aptitude for stone masonry.
As this side of the business grew it broke away from Brosons and G.E.Isaacs and Sons began trading in 1967 remaining in Kippax.
A new arm of the company developed, carrying out maintenance and repair for Leeds City Council and the West Yorkshire Police Authority.
George died in July 1981.
The company became Limited in 1983.
Ron's son, Stephen, joined the company in 1984.
In 1986 the company joined the Society for the Preservation of Ancient Buildings and has attended many of it’s seminars helping them to remain at the forefront of their field using slaked lime products and confirming their knowledge of timber engineering.
G.E.Isaacs and Sons Limited built a reputation for top quality working with organisations such as:
English Heritage,
The National Trust
The Churches Conservation Trust
The National Register of Warranted Builders, now Build Assure
G.E.Isaacs and Sons Limited stopped trading in September 2009 with the retirement of Geoffrey.
Stephen formed S.J. Isaacs to continue the family tradition of working on traditional buildings providing customers with a quality service.
